Are you looking for something more adventurous? Maybe you are fascinated by the idea of reaching the most southern point of Europe, a small island not yet developed for tourism, 3 hours by ferry from Sfakia.
This is Gavdos and it is considered the ancient Ogygia, inhabited by Calypso and mentioned by Homer in the famous Odyssey.
It has only 50 inhabitants and during the summer the mayor also drives the only bus that takes the few travellers from the small port leading to Sarakiniko beach. Here the dictator Metaxas in the 30’s used to intern the political dissidents. Now this beach and the one in Agios Ioannis are well known for free camping.
Go there with the right spirit, as a traveller and not a tourist: you will never forget it.
